WELCOME TO MOLLINGTON PARISH COUNCIL

Mollington is a small village of around 640 people situated approximately two miles north of the centre of Chester. It is sandwiched between the A41 Chester-Liverpool and the A540 Chester-Hoylake roads and is bisected by the Shropshire Union canal. It has a primary school, which it shares with its neighbours Lea-by-Backford and Backford, and a Pre-School. Other shared facilities are the Village Hall (formally opened by Viscount Leverhulme in 1950) and the local church. Additionally Mollington has two 4-star hotels and two residential care homes.
History
Mollington's history traces back to the Anglo-Saxon period. The name "Mollington" likely originates from Old English, meaning "the farm or settlement of a man named Moll." The village is first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, indicating its significance during the medieval period when agriculture dominated local life.
Throughout the 16th to 19th centuries, Mollington maintained its rural character despite broader social and religious changes in England. While the Industrial Revolution transformed many parts of Cheshire, Mollington remained largely agricultural, with farming as the primary occupation for its residents. The village experienced shifts in land ownership but continued to reflect a traditional rural lifestyle.
In the 20th century, improved transportation links and expanding nearby towns began to change Mollington. The village became more accessible, with some residents commuting to work in cities like Chester. Today, Mollington retains its historical charm, featuring a blend of traditional and modern homes, local amenities, and a strong sense of community, all set against a backdrop of scenic countryside and historical landmarks.
